Jozani jungle contains about 100 tree species from a total of 43 families. It is home to the red colobus monkeys,rare species found only in Zanzibar and many other species including Sykes monkeys, small buck, chameleons, bush babies, Ader's duiker, over 50 species of butterfly and 40 species of birds and bush pigs yet all these animals are full of character and roam freely in their ecosystem .
The Jungle is situated 38km southeast (about 20 minutes drive) from Stone Town on Zanzibar Island. It is a narrow neck of land between Chwaka Bay to the north and Uzi Bay to the south.It is home to the red Colobus Monkey, a rare species found only in Zanzibar. These monkeys are full of character and roam freely. About 10 years ago, the monkeys were considered to be in danger of extinction but this trend has since reversed due to a conservation project. There are about 6000 red Colobus monkeys residing in the jungle today.
