Bagamoyo is old town founded in the end of the 18 century although it is an extension of a much older in 8th century settlement. This old town lies in the north of Dar es salaam city about 75 kilomentres, this town gained its name from slave masters cruel message to slaves which stated “Bwaga Moyo chini” meant “Lay down Your heart” was an orderly message telling them to lose their hopes of coming back neither to their homes nor the life they were used to.

Kaole ruins is one among the tourist attraction dating 12 century was the old fort built in 1860 was once embarkation port for slaves from hinterland,  who were to be shipped to Zanzibar Islands for auction and laboring in coconut and clove plantations in Unguja and Pemba.
